Everything About Sparkling Sake

Sparkling sake is a type of Japanese rice wine that is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. It is made using the same natural fermentation process as regular sake, but with the addition of carbonation. Sparkling sake is light and refreshing, with a slightly fruity flavor. It pairs well with a variety of food, making it a versatile choice for entertaining. If you’re looking to try something new, give sparkling sake a try. You may just find your new favorite drink!

What Is a Sparkling Sake?

Sake, or Japanese rice wine, is a traditional beverage that has been consumed in Japan for centuries. In recent years, sake has gained popularity in the West as a delicious and exotic alternative to wine.

Sparkling sake is a type of sake that is carbonated, similar to champagne or other sparkling wines. It is typically made with lower-quality rice and is sweeter and less alcoholic than regular sake. Sparkling sake is often served as an aperitif or dessert wine.

How Is It Made?

Sparkling sake is made using the kimoto method, which is a traditional brewing style. This method involves adding lactic acid to the rice malt, which is then fermented. The lactic acid helps to create bubbles in the sake, which is what gives it its signature sparkle.

Interestingly, the kimoto method was actually developed in the late 19th century in an effort to make sake more refreshing. And, while the method is still used today, it’s now used to create a variety of different types of sake, including sparkling sake.

What Does Sparkling Sake Taste Like?

In general, sake is a light and smooth beverage with a slightly sweet flavor. The carbonation in sparkling sake gives it a slightly tart and acidic taste that is reminiscent of sparkling wine. However, unlike sparkling wine, sake is not overly sweet or fruity.
