What is Sake?
Sake is a traditional Japanese alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice. It has been around for centuries and is enjoyed all over the world. It is sometimes referred to as “rice wine” but is actually brewed in a process similar to beer. It has a unique flavor and aroma that make it a popular choice for special occasions and meals.
Sake is made from four main ingredients: rice, water, yeast, and koji. The rice is milled and polished to remove the outer layers and the starch is extracted from the center. The water is then added to the mixture and the yeast and koji are added to the mixture to begin the fermentation process. This process can take up to two weeks to complete and the result is a unique flavor and aroma.
Types of Sake
There are many different types of sake, each with its own unique flavor and aroma. The most common types are Junmai, Ginjo, and Daiginjo. Junmai is made from rice, water, and koji and has a strong flavor and aroma. Ginjo is made from rice, water, yeast, and koji and has a light, fruity flavor. Daiginjo is made from rice, water, yeast, and koji and has a smooth, delicate flavor.
Other types of sake include Nigori, which is unfiltered and has a cloudy appearance, and sparkling sake, which is carbonated and has a light, refreshing flavor. There are also many different types of flavored sake, such as plum, yuzu, and cherry.
